Asia’s Largest High School Debate Major

Coming back to an in person experience directly in Malaysia, ASDC 2023 will be hosted physically at Epsom College. With an adjudication core comprising some of the best speakers across Asia, and a commitment to investing in flying in qualified international IAs, and a free day to explore Malaysia’s signature food and culture, this year’s ASDC promises to be an unforgettable experience.

  • Dates: October 2023 (to be announced soon)

  • Format: Asian Parliamentary (3 speakers per team + 2 optional reserves)

  • Venue: Epsom College in Malaysia (In Person)

  • Registration Fees: RM1500/pax

  • Adjudicator Rule: N=1

Eligibility

In line with the ASDC constitution, speakers are eligible to break (proceed to the elimination rounds) if they meet the following criteria:

  1. Enrolled in a primary school, secondary school or a body that awards primary and secondary academic qualifications.

  2. Pursuing O-levels, IGCSE or an equivalent level of examination or qualification under an educational body.

  3. Pursuing A-levels or International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) under integrated learning curriculums in secondary schools within Grade 11 to Grade

  4. A debater must not be enrolled in any tertiary academic courses.

  5. A debater is still eligible to debate on behalf of their previously enrolled in academic body for six months after the commencement of their graduation date, provided that he or she is allowed to represent that academic body and not in violation of 11.2 (the previous clauses listed above)

Novice Criteria

  1. Have not broken in the open category of any past editions of ASDC

  2. Have not participated in the World Schools Debate Championship as a speaker

  3. All 3 speakers in a team must qualify as Novice for the team to qualify as a Novice team, and be eligible to break into the Novice finals series

  4. An independent committee shall be created to resolve any disputes with “Novice” status
